Once you’re done your home renovation, chances are good you’ll be looking forward to catching up on your favourite TV shows. Here are a few things to think about to help enhance your viewing experience.
How do I get the best quality picture and sound for high definition TV?
Choose the right cables.
In order to watch HD programming, you need to use either an HDMI cable or a set of component cables to connect your TV and set-top box. HDMI cables are your best choice as they carry both the digital audio and video signals your TV needs for HD programming in one cable.
Also, for a better TV signal, it is best if cables and power cords are not run parallel to one another.
Money saving tip: You don’t need to buy expensive HDMI cables; a $10 generic cable works as well as a $100 brand name cable.
Check your resolution settings.
For the best possible HD picture quality, it is important to ensure that both your TV and set-top box are set to the same resolution.
Consult your TV user guide to configure the resolution for your TV. In many cases, the TV will automatically select a video resolution. It is best to choose the highest resolution that the TV can accept.
Once the TV is set to the highest HD resolution, set the same resolution on your MTS Ultimate TV set-top box, following the instructions available in the TV user guide online – mts.ca/tvuserguide.
What’s the best internet plan for Smart TV capabilities and streaming services such as Netflix?
To ensure a quality streaming experience on your TV, whether it’s finding a DIY video on YouTube or binge watching your latest find on Netflix, we recommend High Speed Internet plans that offer download speeds of up to 25 Mbps or higher. MTS offers a range of High Speed Internet plans to meet or exceed this need. Plus, with MTS, you can stream your Netflix with the only provider in Manitoba that offers direct access through your set-top box.
Planning tip: If you’re renovating a room where you’ll want internet or TV, run Cat 5e cable, which is the standard for quality wired networking.
What’s the ideal TV placement when it comes to wall height?
Your renovation might involve changing the location of your TV. Keep your comfort in mind and make sure the placement of your TV doesn’t give you a kink in your neck. The general rule for optimum viewing is that the centre of the screen should be at the eye level of the viewer. Think about this in relation to how the TV will be watched in your room – whether the TV will mostly be watched from a sitting position on your couch, standing in your kitchen or playing air hockey in your game room.
And here’s an idea – watch TV from any room with a wireless set-top box
Want to add TV to a room where it’s difficult to run cabling? Do you have a portable TV that you move around the house? Have an outdoor living space where you’d like to watch TV?
MTS offers a wireless set-top box, allowing you to move the set-top box around your home without the need to run any additional cables.
MTS Ultimate TV offers features and programming that will change the way you watch TV. Visit mts.ca to learn more. Netflix membership required. We’re with you.
